The Bihar Police SI syllabus for the 2026 cycle (BPSSC Advt 09/2026) keeps the structure BPSSC has run for the last several daroga recruitments: a 200-mark prelims on general knowledge, a two-paper mains where General Hindi is qualifying, then the physical test. This page lays out each stage from the official advertisement scheme. Last updated: 09.07.2026.
Stage 1: Prelims
| Stage 1 Prelims | Bihar Police official record |
|---|---|
| Questions / Marks | 100 questions / 200 marks |
| Duration | 2 hours |
| Negative marking | 0.2 marks per wrong answer |
| Qualifying | 30% minimum; ~20× vacancies advance to mains |
The prelims paper is entirely General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Indian history with Bihar-specific movements, geography of India and Bihar, polity and constitution, economy basics, general science, and current events of roughly the last year. Bihar-centric questions (governors, schemes, festivals, rivers, districts) show up every cycle and are the cheapest marks in the paper. Prelims marks do not count in the final merit. The exam only filters entry to mains.

The written syllabus is ordinary. The discipline of covering Hindi, GS and the run in parallel is what separates selections from near-misses in this exam. Applications close 9 August 2026.
Stage 2: Mains, two papers
Paper 1: General Hindi (qualifying)
| Stage 2 Mains Paper 1, General Hindi | Official record |
|---|---|
| Questions / Marks | 100 questions / 200 marks. |
| Duration | 2 hours. |
| Qualifying marks | 30%, and the marks are not added to merit. |
Covers vyakaran (grammar), paryayvachi/vilom, muhavare, sandhi, samas, gadyansh comprehension and Class 10-12 level Hindi usage. Native Hindi speakers still fail this paper by skipping preparation entirely. Give it one clean revision week.
Paper 2: GK, GS and Mental Ability (merit paper)
| Stage 2 Mains Paper 2, merit paper | Official record |
|---|---|
| Questions / Marks | 100 questions / 200 marks. |
| Duration | 2 hours. |
| Negative marking | 0.2 marks per wrong answer. |
Sections: general studies (history, geography, polity, economy at deeper level than prelims), general science, mathematics at Class 10 level (arithmetic, percentage, ratio, SI/CI, mensuration), and mental ability (series, analogy, coding, syllogism, direction, data sufficiency). This paper alone decides the written merit, so preparation hours should be split heavily toward it.
Stage 3: Physical Eligibility Test
| Test | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| Running | 1.6 km in 6 min 30 sec | 1 km in 6 min |
| Long jump | 12 feet | 9 feet |
| Shot put | 16 lb – 16 feet | 12 lb – 10 feet |
| Height | 165 cm (category relaxations apply) | 155 cm |
| Chest | 81–86 cm |
PET is qualifying but merciless: each event is pass/fail with no relaxation in timing. More serious aspirants are eliminated here than in prelims, usually on the run. Start the 1.6 km practice in July, not after the mains result.
Final merit
Merit list = Paper 2 marks of candidates who cleared PET, with document verification and medical at the end. There is no interview in the SI cadre process.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Bihar Police SI prelims pattern?
100 questions for 200 marks in 2 hours, entirely general knowledge and current affairs, with 0.2 marks deducted per wrong answer under BPSSC Advertisement 09/2026.
How many candidates go through to the mains?
About 20 times the number of vacancies, and only candidates scoring the 30% minimum in prelims are counted for that shortlist.
Is there negative marking?
Yes, 0.2 marks per wrong answer in the prelims. That is one mark lost for every five wrong answers, so blind guessing costs more than it returns.
Do the prelims marks count towards the final merit?
No. The prelims is a screening stage of 200 marks. The merit is built at the mains, where two papers are written, and the physical test follows.
Is General Hindi part of the merit?
It is qualifying rather than scoring. Clearing the 30% bar in it matters, but its marks do not lift your rank. The other mains paper builds the merit.
Has the exam date been announced?
No date has been published for Advertisement 09/2026. BPSSC posts examination notices on its own site, and its recent practice on other advertisements is to issue a rejection list before any admit card.
