CSIR has opened Assistant Section Officer (ASO) recruitment 2026 with 100 posts, closing 13 July 2026 at 5 PM. Read the eligibility line twice before you get excited: this recruitment is only for non-recommended candidates of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. • Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognised university.
• Appeared in UPSC CSE 2024 and figure among the non-recommended candidates whose details UPSC shares under the public disclosure scheme.
• Maximum age 33 years as on 13 July 2026, with category relaxations.

Why this exists

UPSC maintains a consent-based list of candidates who cleared stages of CSE but missed final selection, and government bodies recruit from it directly. For the candidate, it converts an “almost” attempt into a Group-B central government post at CSIR, India’s largest research council, without another year of open competition. ASO here is the same level as the CGL-recruited ASO in central ministries.

How to apply

1. Open the CSIR recruitment portal: recruitment.csir.res.in.
2. Register with the same identity details you used in CSE 2024; CSIR cross-verifies against the UPSC disclosure data.
3. Select your post preference among General, F&A and S&P.
4. Upload documents, pay the fee if applicable, and submit before 5 PM on 13 July. The portal closes on time, not at midnight.

If you are not CSE-2024 pool

The open-competition routes to the same ASO level are SSC CGL (the SSC CGL 2026 cycle with 12,256 posts is in progress) and departmental exams like the SSC ASO LDCE 2026 for serving staff. Those are where the same job is fought for the normal way.
