Eligibility
Candidates need an MBBS degree, or a provisional MBBS pass certificate, from an NMC-recognized institute, along with valid NMC or State Medical Council registration. A one-year compulsory rotating internship also needs to be completed, or likely to be completed by the cutoff date specified in NBEMS’s official information bulletin. Sources vary on the exact internship cutoff date, so candidates should confirm this directly from the bulletin rather than assume a specific date. There’s no upper age limit and no cap on the number of attempts, though this is always worth reconfirming against the current year’s bulletin since exam rules can change.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC-NCL / EWS / Unreserved | ₹3,500 |
| SC / ST / PwBD | ₹2,500 |
Fees can be paid by debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI, and are non-refundable once paid.
Exam Pattern
NEET PG 2026 has a notable change from previous years: the paper now has 180 questions instead of the earlier 200, split across 5 sections of 36 questions each. The duration stays at 3 hours 30 minutes despite the reduced question count. Each correct answer gets 4 marks, and each incorrect answer loses 1 mark, with no marks for unattempted questions.
Questions are drawn from across the MBBS curriculum: pre-clinical subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry; para-clinical subjects like Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, and PSM; and clinical subjects including Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Anaesthesia, and Radiodiagnosis. Medicine and Surgery typically carry the highest weightage among these.

After the Exam
Counselling for All India Quota seats, deemed and central university seats (AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER, BHU, AMU, ESIC), and DNB seats is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the DGHS, typically across multiple rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and a Stray Vacancy round), with fresh choice-filling allowed each round. State quota seats are counselled separately by each state’s own authority. Counselling is expected to begin after results are declared, likely around September 2026.
