The UGC NET June 2026 Answer Key was released by the National Testing Agency on 16 August 2026 for 84 of the 87 subjects, and the challenge window closed on 18 August 2026 at 11:59 PM. The remaining three subjects, English, Commerce and Sociology, will not get an answer key at all, because NTA has ordered those papers to be re-conducted on 9 and 10 September 2026.
UGC NET June 2026 answer key — live updates
22.08.2026: Checked the NTA notice board. No revised or final answer key has been uploaded yet for the 84 subjects, and no admit card notice has appeared for the 9 and 10 September re-conducted papers. The challenge window has been closed for four days and NTA is still processing the objections.
18.08.2026: The answer key challenge window closed at 11:59 PM, along with the last window for paying the Rs 200 per question processing fee. NTA has stated that no objection will be entertained after this closure or after the declaration of result.
16.08.2026: NTA issued two public notices on the same day. The first opened the provisional answer key challenge for 84 subjects. The second, issued later in the day, ordered the re-conduct of the English, Commerce and Sociology papers after a committee found extensive errors in those three question papers.
Is the UGC NET answer key out for my subject
This is the first thing to settle, because the answer is different depending on which paper you sat. NTA split the June 2026 session into two groups on 16 August, and only one of them has an answer key.
| Which subject did you appear in | What NTA has done |
|---|---|
| Any of the 84 subjects other than the three below | Provisional answer key and recorded responses were displayed on 16.08.2026. Result will be declared on schedule. |
| English paper candidates | No answer key issued. Paper re-conducted on 09.09.2026, Shift 1, 9 AM to 12 Noon. |
| Commerce paper candidates | No answer key issued. Paper re-conducted on 09.09.2026, Shift 2, 3 PM to 6 PM. |
| Sociology paper candidates | No answer key issued. Paper re-conducted on 10.09.2026, Shift 1, 9 AM to 12 Noon. |
| Subjects in the whole June 2026 session | 87 subjects, examination held from 22 to 30 June 2026 for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admission. |
UGC NET answer key challenge dates and fee
The objection facility has already closed. These terms still matter, because they decide how your challenge is treated and whether your money comes back.
| Challenge question | What the official notice says |
|---|---|
| When did the challenge window open and close | 16 August 2026 to 18 August 2026, up to 11:59 PM. |
| Last date for fee payment | 18 August 2026 up to 11:59 PM, by Debit Card, Credit Card or Net Banking. |
| How much was the processing fee | Rs 200 per question challenged. |
| Is the Rs 200 refundable | Yes, refunded in full for every challenge that is accepted by the expert panel. |
| Mode of submitting a challenge | Online only. Challenges by email, fax or letter, or without fee, were not accepted. |
| Subjects the challenge covered | 84 subjects. English, Commerce and Sociology were excluded from it. |
Why English, Commerce and Sociology are being re-conducted
NTA did not simply drop a few questions here. The committee that examined the complaints concluded the defects were too widespread to repair through the normal challenge process, so a full re-examination was ordered instead.
| Question about the re-exam | Official position in the 16 August notice |
|---|---|
| What errors did the committee find | Factual, typographical and translation errors, misspelt names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles, errors in question stem wording, grammatical, gender and number agreement errors, punctuation mistakes and non-standard coined terms. |
| Were questions repeated from old papers | Yes. The committee recorded repetition of a significant number of questions previously administered. |
| Why was the key not simply corrected | NTA concluded that defects of this extent cannot be cured merely by dropping questions after the challenge process. |
| Is there an extra exam fee for the retest | No additional examination fee will be charged from candidates of these three subjects. |
| When is the re-exam admit card coming | Not officially announced as on 22.08.2026. City, centre and admit card details will be notified separately on the official website. |
UGC NET June 2026 result date and what happens to JRF
Candidates in the 84 subjects feared the re-conduct would hold up their result. NTA addressed that directly in the same notice, and the answer is that it will not.
| Result question | What NTA has confirmed |
|---|---|
| Will the 84 subject results be delayed | No. Results will be declared as per schedule. |
| Will JRF allocation be held back | No. JRF seat allocation and e-certificates for Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admission will not be delayed by the re-conduct. |
| How many qualify for Assistant Professor | Equal to 6 per cent of the candidates who appeared in the June 2026 test, or the retest, whichever is higher. |
| Can the three subjects lose seats after the retest | No. After the retest, the numbers already allocated for each subject shall not be reduced under any circumstances. |
| Exact result declaration date | Not officially announced as on 22.08.2026. No result date notice has been issued on the NTA notice board. |
How to check the UGC NET revised answer key and result
The revised final answer key will be published before the results are declared. The sequence below follows the login flow NTA itself uses for this session.
- Open the official UGC-NET candidate portal listed in the Important Links section at the end of this page.
- Select the UGC-NET June 2026 candidate activity link on the home page.
- Log in with your application number and date of birth or password, exactly as printed on your admit card.
- Open the final answer key link for your subject and match it against your recorded responses.
- Download the scorecard when the result is declared and save a copy before the login window closes.
Marking scheme used to calculate your UGC NET score
Once the final key is out you can compute your own score before the result appears. UGC NET carries no negative marking, which keeps the calculation simple.
| Scoring question | UGC NET June 2026 position |
|---|---|
| Marks for a correct answer | 2 marks per question in both Paper 1 and Paper 2. |
| Is there negative marking | No. No marks are deducted for a wrong answer. |
| Marks for an unattempted question | Zero, and no penalty is applied. |
| What if a challenge is accepted | The key is revised and the correction is applied uniformly to every candidate of that subject, not only to the person who raised it. |
| Will NTA tell you if your objection won | No. Individual decisions on each challenge are not communicated separately to candidates. |
What to do if your subject is not listed or the key does not open
A number of candidates opened the portal on 16 August and found nothing for their paper. In most cases that is expected behaviour, not a technical fault, so check this before raising a grievance.
| What you are seeing | What it actually means |
|---|---|
| Your subject is not listed in the answer key | You almost certainly sat English, Commerce or Sociology. Those three were deliberately excluded and your paper is being re-conducted in September. |
| The login page rejects your application number | Use the application number and password exactly as printed on your June 2026 admit card. A December 2024 or June 2025 login will not work for this session. |
| You missed the challenge deadline | Nothing further can be filed. NTA will not entertain any objection after 18.08.2026 or after the result is declared. |
| You paid the fee but see no confirmation | Keep the payment receipt. The fee is refunded only where the expert panel accepts the challenge, and no individual acknowledgement is sent either way. |
| You want to know if your objection was accepted | Compare the revised final answer key against the provisional one when it is published. That comparison is the only confirmation NTA provides. |
