Scheme details

Scheme record
Info
Official nameKalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT)
Launched15 September 2023
Monthly amount₹1,000 (₹12,000/year)
Budget (2023-24)₹7,000 crore, reportedly rising to ₹13,000 crore by 2024-25
BeneficiariesOver 1.31 crore women (expanded from an initial 1.13 crore)

On 29.09.2026 the portal kmut.tn.gov.in still described the benefit as ₹12,000 a year, which is ₹1,000 a month, and mentioned no higher amount. Its security certificate expired on 16.07.2026, so Chrome and other browsers show a privacy warning before the page opens. The warning comes from the lapsed certificate, not from a different site. Status checks also work through edistricts.tn.gov.in.

At ₹1,000 a month, 1.31 crore women come to ₹1,310 crore a month, or about ₹15,720 crore a year. That is more than the ₹13,000 crore reported for 2024-25, so either the beneficiary count or that budget figure is out of date. The one-time ₹5,000 top-up to the same 1.31 crore women works out to ₹6,550 crore.

The May “restructuring” scare, what actually happened

In May 2026, following a change in the state government, officials said they needed time to “restructure” the scheme, which briefly caused public concern about a possible discontinuation or delay. This was resolved within the same period: officials confirmed the scheme continues without discontinuation, the May installment was credited (after a short delay tied to administrative and banking issues, including Aadhaar-bank seeding problems for some beneficiaries), and DBT payments to eligible beneficiaries have continued as normal since. If your payment was delayed around that time, an Aadhaar-bank seeding mismatch is the most likely cause. Check that your Aadhaar is correctly linked to the bank account registered with the scheme.

Note: Related schemes: Laxmi Bhandar gives monthly support to Bengal women. Odisha Subhadra pays Rs 10,000 a year to women. Sukanya Samriddhi is the 8.2% girl-child savings account.

If your monthly payment hasn’t arrived, check your Aadhaar-bank seeding status before assuming the scheme has stopped. That mismatch has been the most common real cause behind delays this year, not any policy discontinuation.

About the ₹2,500 figure you may have seen

The current ruling party had campaign-pledged raising the monthly amount to ₹2,500 for women under 60. As of the most recent information available, this has not been implemented. It remains a stated intention, not an enacted benefit. If you’ve seen ₹2,500 quoted as the current amount anywhere, that’s incorrect. The live monthly transfer is still ₹1,000.

Separately: a one-time top-up

A special one-time payment of ₹5,000 was credited to 1.31 crore beneficiaries at some point in the recent cycle. This was a distinct, one-off top-up, separate from and in addition to the regular ₹1,000 monthly transfer. Don’t confuse it with a permanent increase in the recurring amount.
