The RRB Technician 2026 syllabus exam pattern for CEN 02/2026 comes from one document, the detailed centralised employment notification published on 30.06.2026. The exam date is now fixed: a tentative schedule notice signed by the Chairpersons of the Railway Recruitment Boards, dated 10.09.2026 and read in full on 12.09.2026, puts the CBT for Technician Grade I and Technician Grade III between 06 October 2026 and 09 October 2026. City intimation and the e-call letter are still to come. The subject break-up below carries a caveat in the notification itself, printed directly under both tables, that it is only indicative.
Position on 12.09.2026 and how much warning you get
The long silence on this CEN ended on 10.09.2026. The lead times this page had measured off the boards’ own dated entries for recent CENs now have something to be checked against, and they hold up: the schedule landed 26 days before the first exam day, and the board’s own promise of an e-call letter four days before the exam puts it roughly 22 days after the schedule, inside the 11 to 38 day band measured below.
| RRB Technician exam date | Boards, 12.09.2026 |
|---|---|
| CEN 02/2026 documents | Three: the notification, the FAQ and the CBT schedule notice. |
| Exam date | 06.10.2026 to 09.10.2026, tentative, for Grade I and III. |
| City slip | It comes about 10 days before the exam on every RRB site. |
| E-call letter | It opens about 4 days before your exam date. |
| Aadhaar at centre | Keep Aadhaar unlocked, biometrics are checked before entry. |
| ID to carry | Original Aadhaar or an e-verified Aadhaar printout. |
| Order of stages | Schedule, city slip, mock test link, then e-call letter. |
| Schedule to city slip | 5 to 32 days on recent CENs, one outlier at 98. |
| Schedule to e-call letter | 11 to 38 days on the same boards. |
| Closed window | Applications closed on 29.07.2026. |
| Notification channel | Board websites, SMS and email, never by post. |
| Action needed now | Unlock Aadhaar and match it to your Class 10 certificate. |
Note: The notification and FAQ are dated 30.06.2026. The schedule notice of 10.09.2026 is filed under Exam Schedule in English and Hindi. The city slip page also carries the travel authority for SC and ST candidates. Aadhaar name, date of birth as per Class 10, photograph, biometrics, address and father’s name must be correct. Unverified candidates can verify at rrbapply.gov.in. No alternative ID is named for the biometric step. The modification window closed on 10.08.2026 and scribe details were due 11.08.2026 to 15.08.2026. Under four weeks remained from 12.09.2026, and neither Aadhaar problem can be fixed on exam day.

Technician Grade I Signal, subject-wise marks and topics
Level-5, initial pay 29,200 rupees, 323 vacancies across all boards. One computer based test, 100 questions in 90 minutes, one third of a mark off for every wrong answer. The notification prints the split below and then calls it merely indicative, so treat it as a study weighting rather than a guarantee about the paper.
| Grade I Signal subject | Questions / marks | Topics |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Science and Engineering | 35 / 35 | Physics fundamentals, electricity and magnetism, basic and digital electronics |
| Mathematics | 20 / 20 | Number system, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, sets, statistics, probability |
| Basics of Computers and Applications | 20 / 20 | Architecture, devices, networking, operating systems, MS Office, internet, virus |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 15 / 15 | Analogies, series, coding, syllogism, Venn diagrams, data sufficiency, directions |
| General Awareness | 10 / 10 | Current affairs, geography, history, polity, economy, environment, sports, science |
| Marks concentration | 55 of 100 | Science, engineering and computers carry 55 marks. |
| Age and medical | 18 to 33 on 01.07.2026, medical standard B-1. |
Note: Physics covers units, mass, weight, density, work, power, energy, speed, velocity, heat and temperature. Electricity and magnetism cover charge, field, potential difference, circuits, conductors and insulators, Ohm’s law and its limits, series and parallel resistance, specific resistance, Ampere’s law, magnetic force on moving charges, electromagnetic induction, Faraday’s law and magnetic flux. Electronics covers devices and circuits, microcontroller, microprocessor, electronic measurements, range extension, CRO, LCD and LED panels and transducers. Mathematics also covers rational and irrational numbers, BODMAS, quadratic equations, AP, similar triangles, Pythagoras, coordinate geometry, heights and distances, surface area and volume, and grouped and ungrouped data measures. Operating systems include Windows, Unix and Linux. The notification calls the topic list illustrative and not exhaustive, and the subject split merely indicative.
Technician Grade III, subject-wise marks and topics
Level-2, initial pay 19,900 rupees, 6,234 vacancies, which is most of the 6,557 in this CEN. Same 100 questions in 90 minutes and the same negative marking, but the weighting is completely different, and general science alone is 40 per cent of the paper.
| Grade III subject | Questions / marks | Topics |
|---|---|---|
| General Science | 40 / 40 | Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard |
| Mathematics | 25 / 25 | Number system, ratio, percentage, mensuration, time and work, interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry, statistics |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 25 / 25 | Same list as Grade I Signal |
| General Awareness | 10 / 10 | Current affairs, science, sports, culture, economics, politics |
| Biggest section | 40 marks | General science outweighs maths or reasoning alone. |
| Age limit | 18 to 30 on 01.07.2026. | |
| Vacancies | 6,557 | Split board-wise and zone-wise in Annexure B. |
| Trade paper | None | No trade-specific section in the Grade III CBT. |
Note: Mathematics also covers BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, time and distance, square root, age, calendar and clock, and pipes and cistern. General science is Class 10 NCERT material, not trade knowledge. The Grade III age limit is three years tighter at the top than Grade I Signal. Annexure B decides how steep your own 1:1 cut is.
Qualifying marks, normalisation and the one-to-one cut
Clearing the qualifying percentage and being called for verification are two separate things, and the distance between them is large. Only as many candidates go forward as there are vacancies at that board.
| RRB Technician qualifying marks | Notification |
|---|---|
| Qualifying marks | UR 40, EWS 40, OBC 30, SC 30, ST 25 per cent. |
| PwBD relaxation | Up to 2 marks, only if reserved posts fall short. |
| Normalisation | Applied when the CBT runs in more than one shift. |
| Shortlisting | Board-wise at 1:1 of that board’s vacancies. |
| Tie-break | Older candidate first, then the given name alphabetically. |
| Selection stages | One CBT, then document verification and medical. |
| Medical standard | B-1 for Grade I Signal, post-wise for Grade III. |
Note: Ex-servicemen are held to their own community’s percentage. Qualifying and being called are different things. There is no second CBT in this CEN. Grade III medical standards are listed in Annexure A.
Fee refund, and the application mistake that costs post options
The application window closed on 29.07.2026 and the modification window on 10.08.2026, so nothing in this section can be corrected now. It still matters, because two of these rules decide whether your money comes back after the exam and whether the posts you actually wanted are sitting on your list. Fee was payable online only, by net banking, card or UPI, with service charges on the candidate, and an application filed without the correct fee was rejected outright with no appeal.
| RRB Technician fee and refund | Notification and FAQ |
|---|---|
| Application fee | 500 rupees, or 250 for concession categories. |
| Fee refund | 400 of 500, or all of 250, only if you sit the CBT. |
| Refund account | Only into a bank account seeded with Aadhaar. |
| Both grades | Each needs its own application, fee and one board. |
| Both qualifications | File one Grade III application listing both to unlock all posts. |
| Minority and EBC | Fee concession only, not reservation. |
| EBC income | Family income below 50,000 rupees a year. |
| Modification fee | 250 rupees per change, never refunded. |
Note: The 250 fee covers SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and economically backward class candidates. Refunds are less bank charges, and a non-operational linked account means no refund. The both-qualifications case is 10+2 with Physics and Maths plus an ITI in a prescribed trade. EBC is not OBC and not EWS. EBC proof is an income certificate from a Tehsildar or higher, a BPL card, an Izzat MST or a central poverty-alleviation certificate issued on or before 29.07.2026. The chosen board could not be changed at any price.

Frequently Asked Questions
Has the RRB Technician 2026 exam date been announced?
No. On 10.09.2026 the Chandigarh, Chennai and Mumbai boards each showed only two documents under CEN 02/2026, the notification and the FAQ, both dated 30.06.2026. No exam schedule entry exists. All three boards were publishing normally for other recruitments that same week, so this is genuine silence rather than an un-updated page.
How much notice will there be once the RRB Technician exam schedule appears?
On recent CENs at those boards, city intimation followed the exam schedule by 5 to 32 days, and the e-call letter by 11 to 38 days. The exam itself sits after the call letter. So the schedule entry is the signal to watch, and it buys roughly a fortnight to a month of preparation once it lands.
Is the RRB Technician subject-wise marks distribution fixed?
No, and this is widely misreported. The notification heads both tables tentative and then states that the subject-wise distribution is merely indicative and the question papers may vary. It also calls the topic lists illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive. Use the split to decide study time, not to predict the paper.
What are the qualifying marks for RRB Technician CEN 02/2026?
Unreserved and EWS 40 per cent, OBC non-creamy layer 30, SC 30 and ST 25, with ex-servicemen held to their own community's figure. PwBD candidates may get a 2-mark relaxation, only where reserved vacancies would otherwise go unfilled. Clearing that bar is not selection, because document verification is limited to one candidate per vacancy board-wise.
Is there a trade paper in the Technician Grade III CBT?
No. The Grade III paper is general science 40, mathematics 25, reasoning 25 and general awareness 10, and no section tests your ITI trade. General science is drawn from Class 10 Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences, which makes it the largest and most predictable block of marks in the paper.
