RRB Technician Eligibility Criteria 2026

Technician Grade I Signal: Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT or Instrumentation, or a BE/B.Tech/3-year Diploma in a related engineering branch.

Technician Grade III (all trades): Class 10th (Matriculation) plus an ITI certificate (NCVT/SCVT) in the relevant trade. A Diploma or Degree in Engineering is not accepted in place of a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship or ITI for Grade III unless the notification specifies otherwise.

RRB Technician Application Fee & Refund 2026

General/OBC/EWS candidates pay Rs. 500; SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates pay Rs. 250. Both groups get a partial refund — Rs. 400 back for the general fee, Rs. 250 back (full amount) for the concessional fee — but only if you actually appear in the CBT. RRB Technician Selection Process 2026

Unlike ALP, this recruitment has no CBT 2 stage — one CBT decides everything for shortlisting:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT) — a separate CBT is held for each pay level (Grade I Signal and Grade III are different exams)
2. Document Verification (DV) — shortlisted at a 1:1 ratio to vacancies, based purely on CBT merit
3. Medical Examination — B-1 standard for most trades, A-3 for Track Machine, B-2 for Crane Driver, C-1 for workshop trades (see Annexure A for the exact standard per post)

Ties in CBT marks are broken by age — the older candidate ranks higher.

RRB Technician Salary 2026

Technician Grade I Signal sits at Pay Level 5 (7th CPC) with basic pay of Rs. 29,200 — noticeably higher than Grade III. Technician Grade III is Pay Level 2 with basic pay of Rs. 19,900, the same starting level as ALP. Add DA, HRA by city class and other allowances on top of basic in both cases; in-hand pay for Grade III typically starts around Rs. 26,000–28,000 depending on posting.
