• Criminal Law — Indian Penal Code (or Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions as currently applicable), Code of Criminal Procedure/Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Indian Evidence Act/Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, and criminal procedure as practiced in Madhya Pradesh courts
• Constitutional Law — fundamental rights, directive principles, structure of government, judiciary and prosecution-related constitutional provisions
• General Awareness / General Knowledge — current affairs, Madhya Pradesh-specific general knowledge, and static GK topics common across MPPSC exams

Because the negative marking (1 mark per wrong answer against 3 marks per correct answer) is a smaller penalty ratio than most competitive exams, attempting more questions carries less risk here than in exams with 1/3-mark negative marking — but the 40% qualifying threshold in both sections means you can’t lean entirely on your strongest section to carry a weak one.

Preparation priorities

Criminal law and criminal procedure carry the heaviest weight given the job profile, so prioritise the Indian Penal Code/BNS, CrPC/BNSS and Evidence Act/BSA over general constitutional theory. Recent amendments to India’s criminal codes (the shift from IPC/CrPC/Evidence Act to BNS/BNSS/BSA) are worth extra attention since exam-setters tend to test transition-period changes closely.
