Delhi Free Electricity 2026 – 200 units free, scheme continues
The Delhi Free Electricity 2026 subsidy is still running. Domestic consumers get their first 200 units a month completely free, and units between 201 and 400 are billed at half the rate. There was uncertainty after the change of government, but Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved continuation of the power subsidy for financial year 2025-26, so eligible households keep the benefit. For 2026 the rule is unchanged: keep monthly use under 200 units and your domestic bill stays at zero. Watch for any opt-in SMS from your discom so the subsidy does not lapse.

The subsidy covers domestic consumers registered with BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna and Tata Power-DDL. Farmers, lawyers with chambers and 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims are also covered under the four approved categories.
Whether an application is needed
No separate application is needed for most consumers. The subsidy is applied automatically by your discom and shown as a deduction on the bill. If you are a new connection or your subsidy stopped, you may need to opt in once.
Checking or restore your subsidy
- Look at your latest electricity bill. A line item showing the subsidy amount means it is active.
- If the subsidy is missing, send the opt-in request through your discom: BSES via the BSES app or website, Tata Power-DDL via their portal.
- You can also give a missed call or SMS to your discom’s subsidy number printed on the bill to re-enable it.
Some consumers were asked to re-confirm their choice to keep receiving the subsidy. If you got such an SMS, respond once so the benefit is not paused.
Funding for 2026-27 and the 1 September change
The question worth answering is not what the slabs are but whether money has been set aside to pay for them in the current financial year. In the Delhi budget for 2026-27 the power department received ₹3,942 crore, of which ₹3,500 crore is earmarked for electricity subsidy, the slabs continue as they are, with the first 200 units free and 201 to 400 units at half rate. Then on 01.09.2026 the cabinet cleared a revised solar policy that matters directly to households on this subsidy, and its most important line is that the two do not cancel out.

Note: The first 200 units stay free, 201 to 400 units at 50%, nothing above 400. Solar households also earn an incentive on the electricity they save. The solar offer covers households using up to 400 units a month, subject to technical feasibility, and the state covers any gap to the actual cost. The bill must be in the resident’s or a family member’s name, with one subsidised connection per household.
