The Delhi Free Electricity 2026 subsidy is still running. Domestic consumers get their first 200 units a month completely free, and units between 201 and 400 are billed at half the rate. There was uncertainty after the change of government, but Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved continuation of the power subsidy for financial year 2025-26, so eligible households keep the benefit. The subsidy covers domestic consumers registered with BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna and Tata Power-DDL. Farmers, lawyers with chambers and 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims are also covered under the four approved categories.
Do you need to apply?
No separate application is needed for most consumers. The subsidy is applied automatically by your discom and shown as a deduction on the bill. If you are a new connection or your subsidy stopped, you may need to opt in once.
How to check or restore your subsidy
- Look at your latest electricity bill. A line item showing the subsidy amount means it is active.
- If the subsidy is missing, send the opt-in request through your discom: BSES via the BSES app or website, Tata Power-DDL via their portal.
- You can also give a missed call or SMS to your discom’s subsidy number printed on the bill to re-enable it.
Some consumers were asked to re-confirm their choice to keep receiving the subsidy. If you got such an SMS, respond once so the benefit is not paused.
