Syllabus – section wise

General and financial awareness (25 questions)

This section has the highest potential for scoring if you follow banking news regularly. Key topics:

  • Banking awareness: RBI policies, repo rate, CRR, SLR, types of banking accounts, NEFT/RTGS/IMPS, Lok Adalat, Ombudsman scheme
  • Indian financial system: SEBI, IRDAI, NPS, mutual funds, insurance basics
  • Current affairs: Last 4 to 6 months’ national and international events
  • Government schemes: PM schemes related to banking and financial inclusion (PM Jan Dhan, PM Mudra, Atal Pension Yojana)
  • Static GK: Currency and capital of countries, banking headquarters, taglines of major banks

General English (25 questions)

  • Reading comprehension (1 to 2 passages)
  • Cloze test
  • Error detection and correction
  • Fill in the blanks (single and double fillers)
  • Para jumbles
  • Sentence improvement
  • Synonyms and antonyms
  • Idioms and phrases

Quantitative aptitude and data interpretation (25 questions)

  • Data interpretation: bar graphs, line charts, pie charts, tables (5 questions in a set is common)
  • Number series and simplification
  • Quadratic equations
  • Percentage, profit and loss, simple and compound interest
  • Time and work, time and distance
  • Ratio and proportion, averages, mixtures
  • Mensuration (area and volume basics)

Reasoning ability and computer aptitude (25 questions)

  • Seating arrangement (linear and circular)
  • Puzzles (floor, box, month-based)
  • Blood relations
  • Direction sense
  • Coding and decoding
  • Syllogism
  • Inequality
  • Computer basics: hardware and software, MS Office basics, internet concepts, keyboard shortcuts, abbreviations (RAM, ROM, CPU, LAN, WAN)

Local language test

Candidates shortlisted from the written test must pass a local language test before final engagement. You must demonstrate basic proficiency in the local language of the state where the vacancy exists. If you have studied the local language in Class 10 or higher, you are generally considered proficient and may not need to appear for this test. Details are in the notification.

Preparation tips

  • No negative marking means you should attempt every question. Even on questions you find hard, a random attempt has a 25% chance of being correct.
  • General and Financial Awareness: This section is highly learnable in a short time. Start reading a daily banking GK capsule and current affairs PDF one month before the exam.
  • DI (Data Interpretation): Usually 5 to 10 marks out of 25 in the Quant section. Practice calculation speed — most DI sets at this level involve basic arithmetic, not complex formulas.
  • Reasoning Puzzles: Budget 15 to 18 minutes for the 5 to 6 puzzle-based questions. These are time-intensive. Get good at them with daily practice.
  • English Comprehension: Banking-level passages are short and factual. You can score 8 to 10 marks here with minimal preparation if your reading habit is decent.
