One VI (visually impaired) slot is reserved in the Assistant Manager posts, and one VI plus one HI (hearing impaired) slot in the Deputy Manager posts, within the totals above. SBI has noted in the notification that these numbers are provisional and can change before the final selection.
Eligibility for SBI AM DM Law 2026
Both posts need a law degree, but the age and experience requirements differ by grade.
- Assistant Manager (Law), JMGS-I: age 25 to 32 years as on 31.05.2026. A law degree from a recognized university, plus 2 years of post-qualification experience, either as a practicing advocate, as a Law Officer in the legal department of a scheduled commercial bank, or a combination of both.
- Deputy Manager (Law), MMGS-II: age 25 to 35 years as on 31.05.2026. Same qualification, but 4 years of post-qualification experience is required instead of 2.
Age relaxation applies as per government norms: 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 5 years for SC/ST, and additional relaxation for PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, going up to 15 years for PwBD candidates from SC/ST. SBI has specifically stated that internship experience and teaching or training experience will not count toward the required post-qualification experience, so candidates should check their actual practice/bank experience carefully before applying.

SBI has explicitly stated that no correction or edit facility will be available after the registration window closes, so candidates should review every entry carefully before final submission.
Selection Process
Selection is a two-stage process: an online written test followed by an interview.
The written test has an objective section (Reasoning – 25 questions, English Language – 35 questions, both qualifying only and not counted toward merit) plus Professional Knowledge of Law – 50 questions, all in 90 minutes combined. There is also a descriptive test of 5 questions out of 8 offered, worth 50 marks, in 45 minutes. Candidates need to clear both the objective and descriptive sections individually to move ahead.
Final merit is calculated as 70% written test plus 30% interview, both normalized. The indicative syllabus for Professional Knowledge covers Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, financial sector laws, procedural laws, the new Labour Codes, and statutory interpretation with legal drafting, though SBI notes this list is not exhaustive.
