Factors that affect the cut off
- Grade 3 has 6,242 vacancies, which is a large number. More seats moderate the cut off slightly, but applicant volume of 30 to 50 lakh still keeps competition high.
- Grade 1 Signal has only 323 posts. With this few seats and lakhs of degree-holders applying, the cut off here will be noticeably higher than Grade 3.
- Paper difficulty directly affects where the cut off lands. If the exam is easier than previous years, expect cut offs to go up by 3 to 5 marks.
- RRB normalizes marks across shifts. Your final score reflects the normalized value, not your raw score on the day.
Qualifying marks vs cut off
RRB’s minimum qualifying marks are 35% for General, 30% for OBC, 25% for SC/ST. These are just the minimum to have your answer sheet counted. The actual cut off to make the Stage 2 shortlist is always 15 to 30 marks above these thresholds. For Grade 3, a General category candidate targeting Stage 2 should aim for 62 to 65 marks minimum, not just the 35% floor.
