RRB Technician 2026 Syllabus – exam pattern for Grade 1 and Grade 3
The RRB Technician 2026 syllabus under CEN 02/2026 has separate exam patterns for Grade 1 Signal and Grade 3 Open Line posts. Applications open on 30 June 2026, so you have over a month to build a preparation foundation before even submitting the form. Last updated: 20.05.2026.

Subject-wise syllabus
Mathematics
Number system, fractions and decimals, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, elementary algebra, geometry, trigonometry, elementary statistics.
General Intelligence and Reasoning
Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, Venn diagrams, syllogism, jumbling, data interpretation, directions, classification, similarities and differences.
General Science
Class 10 NCERT Physics and Chemistry. Main chapters: motion and force, work energy and power, light, sound, electricity, chemical reactions, acids bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds, life processes. This section has 40 marks in Grade 3 — it is your biggest scoring opportunity.
Basic Science and Engineering (Grade 1 Signal only)
Engineering drawing, units and measurements, basic electricity, work power energy, heat and temperature, levers and machines, signal and telecommunication basics, electronics fundamentals, IT literacy, occupational safety and health.
Stage 2 – trade-specific CBT (Grade 3)
Based on your ITI trade syllabus from NCVT textbooks. Common trades: Electrician, Fitter, Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Refrigeration and AC Mechanic. Minimum 35% needed. No negative marking. Your trade test score does not go into the merit — it just gates you to document verification.
Preparation tips
- Grade 3 has 40 marks from General Science. NCERT Class 9 and 10 is all you need here. Do not skip this section.
- For Grade 1 Signal: Basic Electricity and Engineering Drawing together carry about 20 to 25 of the 50 marks in Basic Science and Engineering. These two topics are where the real scoring happens.
- Solve previous year RRB Technician papers — the 2018 and 2019 papers are closest to this year’s pattern.
- Negative marking of 1/3 means you should skip questions you genuinely do not know. Attempting every question costs marks.
