The PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 free LPG connection is still open to apply for, but the refill subsidy behind it has quietly shrunk. It is now Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 9 refills a year, not the 12 refills most pages still list, cut when the Cabinet renewed the subsidy on 8 August 2025. Connections are going out under a 25 lakh extension that is nearly exhausted: 24.38 lakh of it had been released by 26 August 2026.
Subsidy kitni milti hai – amount and refill limit
This is where most pages are out of date. The amount did not change in August 2025, but the number of cylinders it covers did, and that is worth more to a household than the rate itself.

Note: The Rs 300 is pro-rated for a 5 kg cylinder. The refill limit was cut from 12 on 08.08.2025, so the yearly maximum fell from Rs 3,600. You pay the full price and the Rs 300 is credited after delivery. Nothing has been published yet for FY 2026-27.
Whether the cut costs you anything depends on how much gas you actually use. The government’s own figure for average consumption by Ujjwala households is 4.47 refills in FY 2024-25, up from about 3 in 2019-20. A household at that average never reached 9 cylinders, so for most beneficiaries the change from 12 to 9 makes no practical difference. It bites only on households burning more than 9 cylinders a year, and costs them at most Rs 900 across the year.

3.0 online registration, or is 2.0 still running
Many readers ask about a third version, so here is plainly what exists and what does not. There is no Ujjwala 3.0 to register for; what is running is Ujjwala 2.0 with an extra sanction of 25 lakh connections, and the official dashboard counts that pool down in public. On 02.09.2026 it stood at 24,39,145 of 25,00,000, 60,855 connections left, 97.6% of the extension already used.

Note: No scheme called 3.0 was on the official portal when checked on 04.09.2026. The 2.0 sanction is an additional 25 lakh connections, and it ends when the pool runs out, not on a date. 1,047 connections went out in the week to 02.09.2026. At that pace the remaining 60,855 would last more than a year, so this is a queue to join, not a rush to beat.
Who qualifies and what a connection costs
Three conditions have to hold together. The one that disqualifies most applicants is the second, because it applies to the whole household and not just to the applicant.

Note: No LPG connection may exist in the household with any oil company. A poor household declares itself through the deprivation declaration in the form. A migrant does not need state-specific address proof.
Apply online and check application status
Applications go to the oil company, not to a central portal, so there is no single status page. Pick the company you applied to and track it there.
- Choose the distributor company you want a connection from, Indian Oil, Bharat Gas or HP Gas
- Open that company’s new connection page from the Important Links section above and select the Ujjwala option
- Fill the KYC form with the woman applicant’s Aadhaar details and the deprivation declaration
- Note the reference number the portal gives you, as this is what tracks the application
- Complete Aadhaar e-KYC, done at the distributor showroom or through the company’s app
- Track the application on the same company portal using the reference number or the registered mobile
- Collect the connection once verification clears, normally within about a week of it completing
