Eligibility criteria
Paper 1 (Primary — Classes 1–5):
- Senior Secondary (Class 12) with at least 50% marks AND 2-year D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education); OR
- Senior Secondary with 50% AND 4-year B.El.Ed.; OR
- Graduation with D.El.Ed. or B.Ed. (special education)
Paper 2 (Upper Primary — Classes 6–8):
- Graduation with at least 50% marks AND 2-year D.El.Ed.; OR
- Graduation with 50% AND B.Ed. from a recognised university; OR
- Graduation with 45% AND B.Ed. (under NCTE norms prior to 2002)

UPTET certificate validity
From 2021, the UPTET qualifying certificate is valid for lifetime (previously it was 5 years). Once you qualify, you do not need to re-appear unless you wish to improve your score.
