UPSSSC ASO 2026 Syllabus – Exam Pattern

UPSSSC released the official syllabus for ASO (Assistant Statistical Officer) and ARO (Assistant Research Officer) recruitment 2026 under Advt No. 05-Exam/2026. A total of 1,565 posts are on offer. The exam is in two tiers — Tier 1 is qualifying, Tier 2 carries the merit marks. Last updated: 22.05.2026.

Exam pattern overview

Both tiers are Computer Based Tests. Tier 2 Paper 2 is subject-specific — Statistics for ASO posts. Negative marking of 0.25 per wrong answer in all tiers.

Tier 1 syllabus (qualifying)

• General Hindi — grammar, comprehension, vocabulary
• General English — grammar, comprehension
• General Intelligence and Reasoning — analogies, series, coding-decoding, directions
• General Awareness — current affairs, UP-specific GK, static GK
• Elementary Mathematics — arithmetic up to Class 10 level

Tier 2 — Paper 1 (General Studies)

• Indian History and Culture
• Indian Polity and Constitution
• Indian Economy
• Geography of India and World
• Current Events — national and international
• UP-specific: history, geography, economy, culture
• Science and Technology

Tier 2 — Paper 2 (Statistics for ASO)

• Statistical Methods: Data collection, classification, tabulation, diagrammatic representation, measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), measures of dispersion (range, QD, MD, SD)
• Probability: Classical and empirical probability, addition and multiplication theorems, conditional probability, Bayes theorem, probability distributions
• Statistical Inference: Sampling distributions, estimation — point and interval, testing of hypotheses, t-test, F-test, chi-square test
• Sampling Methods: SRSWR, SRSWOR, stratified sampling, systematic sampling, cluster sampling
• Index Numbers: Laspeyre, Paasche, Fisher ideal index, cost of living index
• Time Series: Components of time series, trend analysis, seasonal variation
• Vital Statistics: Fertility rates, mortality rates, life tables
• Regression and Correlation: Simple and multiple regression, correlation coefficient, rank correlation

UPSSSC PET requirement

This recruitment is through UPSSSC PET 2025. Candidates must have appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 and obtained a valid scorecard. Without PET score, the application is not valid.

Preparation tips

• Statistics Paper 2 is the differentiator — cover all topics from the official syllabus, especially probability and inference
• Tier 1 is qualifying — aim to clear it comfortably, do not over-invest time here
• Previous UPSSSC ASO papers are your best reference — exam pattern stays similar
• UP GK in Paper 1 is heavily tested — cover UP history, geography, and schemes separately
