The Atal Pension Yojana 2026 (APY) is a guaranteed pension scheme for workers in the unorganised sector. You contribute a fixed amount every month based on your age, and after turning 60, you receive a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 for life. Eligibility

  • Indian citizen aged 18 to 40 years
  • Must have a savings bank account or post office account
  • Should not be an income tax payer (from October 2022 onwards)
  • Not a member of any statutory social security scheme (EPF, NPS, etc.)

How to Enroll

  1. Visit your bank branch or net banking portal
  2. Fill the APY registration form with Aadhaar and mobile number
  3. Choose your desired monthly pension amount (₹1,000 to ₹5,000)
  4. Auto-debit set up from your savings account every month
  5. PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) issued immediately

Exit and Withdrawal Rules

  • Normal exit at age 60: full pension starts
  • Premature exit before 60: only own contributions + interest returned (no government co-contribution benefit)
  • Death before 60: spouse can continue or close the account
  • Death after 60: spouse receives same pension; after spouse’s death, nominee gets the corpus
