The Agniveervayu syllabus for Intake 02/2027 follows the structure CASB has used across recent intakes: the Phase 1 online test draws from CBSE Class 11-12 level Physics, Mathematics and English for the science group, and English plus Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA) for the other-than-science group. The exam is on 22-23 September 2026, and this page breaks the paper down section by section from the official CASB scheme. Last updated: 09.07.2026.
Paper structure and timing
| Group | Sections | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Science subjects | English, Physics, Mathematics | 60 minutes |
| Other than science | English, RAGA (Reasoning & General Awareness) | 45 minutes |
| Both groups combined | English, Physics, Maths, RAGA | 85 minutes |
Marking: 1 mark per correct answer, minus 0.25 per wrong answer, no deduction for unattempted questions. The test is online in Hindi and English (bilingual for RAGA and the science sections).
English syllabus (all groups)
Grammar carries the weight: subject-verb agreement, tense forms, prepositions, articles, direct/indirect speech, active/passive voice, one-word substitution, synonyms/antonyms, idioms, spotting errors and a short comprehension passage. The level is Class 10-12 grammar, not literature. Wren & Martin style practice plus previous CASB papers covers it.
Physics syllabus (science group)
Straight from the CBSE 11-12 chapters: physical world and measurement, kinematics, laws of motion, work-energy-power, rotational motion, gravitation, properties of bulk matter, thermodynamics, oscillations and waves, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effects, electromagnetic induction, optics, dual nature of matter, atoms and nuclei, electronic devices and communication systems. Numericals stay at NCERT exercise level; if you can clear NCERT end-of-chapter problems without a calculator, you are at the right level.
Mathematics syllabus (science group)
Sets, relations and functions, complex numbers, quadratic equations, sequences and series, permutation-combination, binomial theorem, trigonometry, straight lines and conic sections, 3D geometry basics, limits and derivatives, integrals, differential equations, probability, statistics, and linear programming. Speed matters more than depth; the paper rewards formula recall and two-step solving.
RAGA syllabus (other-than-science group)
- Reasoning: number series, coding-decoding, analogy, odd one out, blood relations, direction sense, ranking, mathematical operations, simple arithmetic (percentages, ratio, average, profit-loss, time-work, time-distance, simple interest, mensuration basics).
- General Awareness: current affairs of the last 12 months, Indian history and freedom movement, geography, civics, basic science, sports, awards, and defence-specific GK (ranks, exercises, aircraft names come up regularly).
Phase 2 — what follows the written test
Phase 1 qualifiers get called for the Physical Fitness Test: 1.6 km run within the notified time, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and 20 squats, followed by adaptability tests I and II (psychological suitability for military life). Medical examination comes last. Details and the intake’s application process are in our Agniveervayu 02/2027 apply online post, and PCB-background candidates should also see the parallel IAF Medical Assistant 2026 window.
Preparation approach that fits this paper
- Do the official model papers on agnipathvayu.cdac.in first; they set the real difficulty benchmark.
- Revise NCERT Physics and Maths from the chapter list above rather than any thick coaching book. The questions rarely leave NCERT territory.
- For RAGA, one current-affairs monthly for the last year plus a basic reasoning workbook is enough.
- Practice with the 60/45-minute clock. The most common failure in this exam is running out of time, not hard questions.

The syllabus has stayed stable across intakes, so previous papers are a reliable mirror. Applications for the current intake close 26 July 2026; the exam gives you roughly two months after that, which is enough for two full NCERT revision rounds if you start now.
