Factors Affecting the 2026 Cut Off
- Vacancies: 900+ posts — significantly more than previous cycles. Higher vacancies generally bring the cut off down slightly as more candidates qualify for Tier 2
- Applicant volume: DSSSB ASO draws a large Delhi-NCR applicant base. The pool is competitive because the post is a permanent Delhi government job with good pay and posting stability
- Paper difficulty: Tier 1 has been moderately difficult in recent years. Hindi and General Awareness sections tend to be the separators at the top end
- Negative marking: 0.25 per wrong answer — aggressive guessing pulls scores down. Candidates who attempt carefully tend to outperform those who fill all questions
Qualifying vs Shortlisting Cut Off
The Tier 1 cut off is a shortlisting filter, not a final merit mark. Clearing it gets you into Tier 2. The final selection depends entirely on Tier 2 performance — typing speed, accuracy, or descriptive paper quality depending on your post code. Many candidates who clear Tier 1 comfortably do not make the final list because of weak Tier 2 preparation.
How to Target the Cut Off
The 2024 General cut off was 138.25 out of 200 — about 69%. In a 200-question paper with 0.25 negative marking, targeting 150 correct answers with under 20 wrong gives a score around 145-147. That is above the expected 2026 range with a reasonable buffer. Focus on Reasoning and English where accuracy is high, and be selective in GK and Hindi where random guessing is costly.
