The SSC CHT 2026 admit card is due any day now. Tier-I of the Combined Hindi Translator Examination 2026 is fixed for 08.09.2026, and the notice of 31.08.2026 says the Admission Certificate opens two or three days before the exam, through the login module. Candidates also search this paper as JHT or Junior Hindi Translator.
If you opted for your own scribe, check this first: a corrigendum on 03.09.2026 moved the Scribe OTR mapping deadline earlier, not later, from 06.09.2026 to 04.09.2026. That window has already closed, and no Scribe Entry Pass is generated without the mapping.

Last date to map the scribe OTR, and what changed
Deadlines usually get extended. This one moved the other way, which is exactly why it catches people out.
| Scribe question | What changed |
|---|---|
| What was the last date first announced | 06.09.2026 at 23:00 for this examination, published on 31.08.2026 |
| What is the revised last date | 04.09.2026 at 23:00, set by the corrigendum of 03.09.2026 |
| Why an old scribe registration fails | Scribe registrations made before 05.11.2025 were disposed of, so a fresh registration was needed |
| What scribe registration needs now | Scribe registration is now tied to Aadhaar authentication, and the candidate submits the scribe’s registration number to generate the entry pass |
Paper pattern: two sections, a sectional timer each
Paper-I is not a single two-hour paper you can budget freely. The sectional timer is the detail that changes how you attempt it.
| Exam pattern question | Structure in the notice |
|---|---|
| What does Paper-I contain | General Hindi for 100 marks and General English for 100 marks, objective type, on computer |
| How the paper pattern times each part | One hour for each part inside a two-hour paper, so time saved in Hindi cannot be spent on English |
| What is the negative marking in paper 1 | 0.25 marks off for every wrong answer in Paper-I |
| What is in Paper-II | Translation and Essay, descriptive, 200 marks in two hours, taken only by candidates shortlisted on Paper-I |
| What does an answer key challenge cost | Rs.50 per question, non-refundable, within the window the Commission announces after the exam |
Vacancy details: 303 posts and who is hiring
The tentative vacancy list of 09.07.2026 runs to 32 rows across ministries. Two of those rows hold more than half the posts.
| Vacancy question | What the list shows |
|---|---|
| What is the total vacancy | 303 tentative posts, split UR 156, SC 37, ST 15, OBC 75 and EWS 20 |
| How many senior translator posts | Six, at Level-7. The remaining 297 are Junior Translator or Junior Hindi Translator at Level-6, which is 98 per cent of the recruitment |
| Which department has the most posts | The Comptroller and Auditor General with 90 and the Department of Posts with 76. Between them that is 166 of 303, or 55 per cent, counted here from the table |
| Which posts are not for colour blind candidates | Yes. Border Roads Organisation, Fisheries, Central Silk Board and Atomic Energy are marked unsuitable, which is 45 posts by our count |
| Is there a state wise vacancy list | No. The sheet states at the top that state-wise and zone-wise vacancies are not collected at all |
Age limit, eligibility and form fees
| Eligibility question | What the examination notice requires |
|---|---|
| What is the age limit | 18 to 30 years as on 01.08.2026, meaning candidates born between 02.08.1996 and 01.08.2008 |
| What qualification is needed | A Master’s degree in Hindi with English at degree level, or in English with Hindi at degree level, held as on 01.08.2026 |
| What was the application fee | Rs.100, and applications closed on 14.05.2026 |
| Who gets a full fee exemption | Women candidates, and SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates eligible for reservation |
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the SSC CHT 2026 Tier-I exam?
08.09.2026, as fixed by the Commission's notice of 31.08.2026. The Stenographer Grade C and D examination follows it, and its window was widened on the same day from 09 to 12 September to 09 to 15 September 2026.
When will the CHT admit card be released?
The notice says the Admission Certificate will tentatively be available two or three days before the examination date, through the login module on the Commission's website. The exam city can be viewed there already.
I opted for own scribe. Can I still map the OTR?
No. The corrigendum of 03.09.2026 pulled the CHT deadline back from 06.09.2026 to 04.09.2026, two days earlier than first announced. A Scribe Entry Pass is generated only for candidates who mapped the Scribe OTR inside that window.
How many posts is CHT 2026 recruiting for?
303 tentative vacancies as on 09.07.2026. Only six are Senior Translator at Level-7; the other 297 sit at Level-6. The Commission calls the figure tentative and says the final number may differ.
Is there negative marking in CHT Paper-I?
Yes, 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Paper-I also runs on a sectional timer of one hour for General Hindi and one hour for General English, so unused time in one part cannot be carried into the other.
