Professional Knowledge syllabus — topic-wise

This is the section that actually decides your rank, so it’s worth spending most of your prep time here rather than on English.

Selection process

The online exam is followed by an interview. Where both stages run, the final merit list uses a 70:30 weightage between the online exam and the interview — so clearing the cutoff on Professional Knowledge gets you to the interview, but doesn’t lock in your final rank on its own.

How to prepare

  • Prioritise Professional Knowledge over English — English only needs to clear 35%/30%, it earns you nothing extra beyond that
  • NPA/SARFAESI and Basel norms come up often in credit-officer-level papers across banks, not just BOI — worth studying in depth rather than surface-level
  • Practice ratio analysis and DSCR calculations numerically, not just conceptually — these show up as calculation-based questions, not just definitions
