Bank of India Credit Officer 2026 syllabus and exam pattern is out. The exam is built almost entirely around credit and lending knowledge — English Language only qualifies you through, it doesn’t decide your rank. Last updated: 06.07.2026.
Bank of India Credit Officer 2026 exam pattern
| Section | Marks | Nature |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 25 | Qualifying only — not added to merit |
| Professional Knowledge | 100 | Merit-deciding |
| Total | 125 | Composite duration: 120 minutes |
Marking scheme
- 1 mark per question
- 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer
- No marks added or deducted for questions left unattempted
- Sectional qualifying marks: 35% for General/EWS, 30% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD (5% relaxation) — in each section separately, not just overall
Professional Knowledge syllabus — topic-wise
This is the section that actually decides your rank, so it’s worth spending most of your prep time here rather than on English.
| Topic area | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Banking & financial system | RBI functions, types of bank accounts, core banking concepts |
| Credit appraisal & lending | Loan types, the appraisal process, security and collateral norms |
| Financial statement analysis | Balance sheet reading, ratio analysis |
| Working capital & project finance | Assessment methods, DSCR, project appraisal and viability, break-even analysis |
| Risk management in banking | Credit, market and operational risk; Basel norms and capital adequacy; risk mitigation techniques |
| Asset quality & recovery | NPA classification and provisioning, SMA categories and restructuring, SARFAESI Act and recovery mechanisms |
| Priority sector & MSME lending | RBI priority sector guidelines, MSME classification, government credit-linked schemes |
Selection process
The online exam is followed by an interview. Where both stages run, the final merit list uses a 70:30 weightage between the online exam and the interview — so clearing the cutoff on Professional Knowledge gets you to the interview, but doesn’t lock in your final rank on its own.
How to prepare
- Prioritise Professional Knowledge over English — English only needs to clear 35%/30%, it earns you nothing extra beyond that
- NPA/SARFAESI and Basel norms come up often in credit-officer-level papers across banks, not just BOI — worth studying in depth rather than surface-level
- Practice ratio analysis and DSCR calculations numerically, not just conceptually — these show up as calculation-based questions, not just definitions
