The Rajasthan SET 2026 exam pattern mirrors UGC NET: one three-hour sitting, two papers, no negative marking, held offline (OMR) by University of Kota on 13 September 2026. Paper I tests teaching and research aptitude, Paper II is your post-graduation subject. Here is the full structure and Paper I topic list from the SET scheme. Last updated: 09.07.2026.
Exam pattern
| Paper | Questions | Marks | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I | 50 | 100 | Teaching & research aptitude (common for all) |
| Paper II | 100 | 200 | Your PG subject |
Both papers run together in a single session of 3 hours. Every question carries 2 marks, all questions are compulsory, and there is no negative marking, so attempt all 150.
Paper I — the ten units
- Teaching aptitude: teaching concepts, learner characteristics, factors affecting teaching, methods, evaluation systems.
- Research aptitude: research types, methods, steps, thesis writing, ethics, application of ICT in research.
- Comprehension: one passage with questions.
- Communication: types, barriers, effective classroom communication, mass media.
- Mathematical reasoning: number series, letter series, codes, fractions, percentage, ratio.
- Logical reasoning: arguments, syllogisms, analogies, Venn diagrams, Indian logic (pramanas).
- Data interpretation: tables, charts, graphs, quantitative/qualitative data mapping.
- ICT: computer basics, internet, e-governance initiatives, digital education platforms.
- People, development and environment: pollution, climate change, energy sources, SDGs, environmental legislation.
- Higher education system: evolution of Indian higher education, governance, NEP 2020, value education.
NET Paper I books map one-to-one onto this; there is no Rajasthan-specific twist in Paper I.
Paper II — subject syllabus
Rajasthan SET 2026 runs in 21 subjects, including Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Law, Life Science, Management, Mathematical Science, Physical Science, Psychology and Public Administration. The Paper II syllabus for each subject follows the corresponding UGC NET subject syllabus, so download your subject’s NET syllabus from the UGC NET site and prepare from that; the question depth in SET typically sits at or slightly below NET mains level.
Qualifying rules — read these carefully
- Minimum aggregate to qualify: 40 percent for general, 35 percent for reserved categories, taking both papers together.
- Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a certificate. Only the top ~6 percent of appeared candidates, distributed subject and category wise, actually qualify. SET is a competition against your subject’s cohort, not just a pass mark.
- The SET certificate makes you eligible for Assistant Professor posts in Rajasthan for life; it does not by itself grant a job.
Preparation strategy for the 13 September exam
- Since there is no negative marking, train for full attempts: 150 questions in 180 minutes leaves 72 seconds per question.
- Paper I is the score-multiplier most PG-subject experts neglect. Fifteen days of dedicated Paper I practice moves your aggregate more than another Paper II revision round.
- Use UGC NET previous papers of your subject plus the last two Rajasthan SET papers (2023 and earlier) for pattern feel.
- Application process, fee and dates are covered in our Rajasthan SET 2026 apply online post — the form closes 15 July 2026.
