Delhi High Court has opened online applications for the Delhi Higher Judicial Service (HJS) 2026 examination. There are 27 posts, applications started on 1 July 2026, and the window closes on 15 July 2026 at 5:30 PM. The preliminary exam comes very quickly after that, on 26 July 2026, so this is a short, sharp recruitment. Last updated: 09.07.2026.

This is a direct recruitment to the District Judge cadre. It is meant for practising advocates, not for fresh law graduates. If you are looking for entry-level judicial service, this is not that exam; Delhi Judicial Service (DJS) is the one for fresh entrants.

Eligibility

• An LLB degree from a recognised Indian university, with enrolment as an advocate.
• At least 7 years of continuous practice as an advocate. This is the constitutional requirement for direct District Judge recruitment and it is checked strictly at the interview stage.
• Age between 35 and 45 years, with relaxation as per the recruitment rules.

Selection process

Three stages. The preliminary exam on 26 July is an objective screening test covering constitutional law, civil and criminal law, evidence, procedure codes and general legal knowledge. Those who clear it write the mains, which is a descriptive exam testing judgment-writing and detailed knowledge of civil and criminal law. The final stage is viva voce before a committee of High Court judges. Prelims marks do not count in the final merit; they only qualify you for mains.

2. Register with your email and mobile number, then fill in personal, educational and practice details.
3. Upload your photo, signature, and enrolment certificate as asked.
4. Pay the fee online and submit before 5:30 PM on 15 July. The portal cuts off at the exact time.
