The official Coal India MT 2026 Cut Off will be released alongside the CBT result. Until then, the expected cut off figures below are based on previous year trends, vacancy counts, and the difficulty level of past CIL MT exams. Use these as a planning benchmark. Last updated: 11.05.2026.

These figures are approximate and based on publicly reported candidate data. Verify from official sources once the 2026 cut off is declared.
Factors That Affect the Cut Off
- Number of vacancies: With 660 posts in 2026 (one of the highest in recent cycles), cut offs may ease slightly compared to 2022
- Number of applicants: Higher applications from Electrical and Civil streams push those discipline cut offs up
- Paper difficulty: A harder Paper II generally brings overall scores down and adjusts cut offs accordingly
- Reservation norms: SC/ST candidates have lower qualifying marks (30%) and age relaxation, resulting in lower cut offs
- Discipline supply: Disciplines like Rajbhasha Hindi and Company Secretary have fewer qualified applicants, often resulting in lower cut offs despite fewer posts
How to Calculate Your Safe Score
A safe score sits 10–15 marks above the expected cut off for your category and discipline. For a General category Electrical candidate, targeting 150+ out of 200 is considered safe based on historical patterns.
Since there is no negative marking in CIL MT, always attempt all 200 questions. Leaving questions blank is a guaranteed loss; an educated guess gives a real chance of scoring.
Cut Off vs Qualifying Marks
The qualifying marks (40 for General, 35 for OBC, 30 for SC/ST in each paper) are the minimum to not be eliminated outright. The cut off is a higher threshold — it is the minimum total score needed to make it into the merit list after all candidates are ranked. Clearing qualifying marks does not guarantee selection.
