💰 Govt Salary Calculator

Estimate in-hand monthly pay from the basic pay scale printed in a recruitment notification, plus DA, HRA and standard deductions.

Use the starting basic pay from the post's pay scale, e.g. "48480-2000/7-..." → enter 48480.

This is an estimate for planning purposes only — actual pay depends on the organisation's specific pay commission rules, allowances (TA, special pay) and deductions (income tax, insurance, society dues), which vary by department and aren't included here. Always check the official pay circular for exact figures.

How govt in-hand salary is calculated

Gross pay is Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance (DA) plus House Rent Allowance (HRA). DA is a cost-of-living adjustment revised periodically by the government and applied as a percentage of basic pay. HRA depends on where the posting city falls: Metro/X cities get the highest rate, Y cities a mid rate, and Z cities or rural postings the lowest. In-hand salary is gross pay minus deductions, mainly the employee's NPS or PF contribution (calculated on Basic + DA) and professional tax, which is a small fixed state-level deduction in most states.

The exact basic pay for any post is printed in that recruitment's official notification, usually as a pay scale like "48480-2000/7-62480...", where the first number is the starting basic pay. Every SBI, SSC, RRB, and other vacancy post on this site lists this pay scale in its Salary section, so you can copy that starting figure straight into this calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is govt in-hand salary calculated from basic pay?

In-hand salary is calculated as Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance (DA) plus House Rent Allowance (HRA), minus deductions such as NPS/PF contribution and professional tax. Gross pay is Basic + DA + HRA, and in-hand pay is gross pay minus deductions.

What DA and HRA rate should I use for a new recruitment notification?

Use the DA rate currently in effect for that pay commission and the HRA rate for the city classification where the post is located (X/Metro, Y, or Z city). Check the recruitment notification or a recent pay circular for the exact current rates, since both change over time.

Is the NPS deduction calculated on basic pay only or basic plus DA?

Under the National Pension System, the employee's contribution is calculated on Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance, not on HRA or other allowances.

Does this calculator include income tax?

No. This calculator covers DA, HRA and standard NPS/PF and professional tax deductions only. Income tax depends on your total annual income, exemptions and the tax regime you choose, so it isn't included in this estimate.
